Twelfth Annual Collingswood Book Festival

Collingswood Book Festival“A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies… the man who never reads lives only one,” wrote George Martin in A Dance with Dragons. How right he was, and literary endeavors and appreciation are given full throttle every year at the Collingswood Book Festival, where residents of the Delaware Valley can immerse themselves in any number of alternates of the human condition.

2014 sees the 12th Annual Collingswood Book Festival, and attendance details are as follows:

  • Where: Six blocks of Haddon Avenue, downtown Collingswood, NJ
  • When: Saturday, October 11, 2014
  • What time: 10 AM to 4 PM
  • How much: Free to all

What to Expect

Festival-goers strolling along Haddon Avenue will encounter both local and nationally recognized authors and speakers, showing off their expertise in all genres and age-targeted arenas of publishing. Adult, Young Adult and Childrens’ markets will all be catered to in roughly equal measure, and attendees can expect:

  • Booksellers plying their wares
  • Storytellers giving spoken-word performances
  • Poets giving recitals (and poetry readings by others)
  • Workshops concentrating on all aspects of the literary craft

Aside from all the belletristic attractions, kid-friendly activities will vie with entertainment for all ages; the six hours over which the festival takes place may well not be enough, with entertainment along Collings Avenue set to feature:

  • The Eve Thomas Trio, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM
  • Tess McCrindle, from 11:15 AM to 12:15 PM
  • Hotsy Totsy, from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM
  • No Relation Band, from 1:45 PM to 2:45 PM
  • David Kelly, from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM

The Collingswood Book Festival is the DelawareValley’s longest-running and largest literary event. Notwithstanding, everyone involved in organizing and running the day is a volunteer, and the festival was the 2014 recipient of a New Jersey Library Association Service Award for a Volunteer Group.
