While many of us may feel the need to hold back when it comes to dessert, sometimes, you’ve just got to treat yo’ self. After all, you do deserve it.
When the Cherry Hill Nissan team decides it’s time to indulge, there’s four Philadelphia area ice cream shops we’re constantly debating over visiting.
Bassetts Ice Cream
Undoubtedly, Bassetts is one of the oldest ice cream parlors in the entire city. Lewis Bassett began churning his delicious desserts as far back as 1861. Since then, the shop has become world famous.
With literally dozens of flavors and novelty items to choose from, the most challenging part of eating at Bassetts will be deciding on just one scoop.
- I’ll have… Something fruity, like Pomegranate ice cream with blueberry swirl and chocolate chunks.
The Franklin Fountain
The Franklin Fountain story dates back to 2003, when the young Berley brothers began dreaming of opening their own ice cream shop. While it may have seemed like wishful thinking, once they purchased their turn-of-the-century storefront in Old City, everything quickly fell into place.
These days, the brothers make some of the very best ice cream in the city from their own recipes.
- I’ll have… Maple Walnut ice cream with syrup-steeped nuts.
When Scoop DeVille opened, their goal wasn’t just to serve excellent ice cream, but to provide customers with a unique experience, as well.
At this shop, you create the flavors yourself. First, you pick your base ice cream. Then, you blend in all the ingredients that your heart desires.
- I’ll have… Vanilla Fudge ice cream with hard pretzels and malted milk balls.
Although it’s the newest shop on the list, Sweet Charlie’s may also be the most unique. It’s the only shop on this list where you can find Thai-style ice cream rolls.
When you order, all ice cream is placed fresh on a hyper-cold surface whose temperatures are typically maintained at 20 degrees below zero. From there, you get to pick your (sweet, sweet) poison.
- I’ll have… A Chocolate ice cream roll on an oven-baked glazed donut with s’more toppings.
Is Your Sweet Tooth Aching?
After reading through this whole list, I wouldn’t be surprised if you were already running for the door. With sweet treats like these, it’s pretty hard to resist.
All four of these shops have something delicious to offer. Don’t limit yourself to just one. Rather, treat yo’ self to all of them!
