Labor Day is celebrated on the first Monday of September every year (this year, that’s Monday the 7th), with street parades and festivals honoring workers and their families and civic pride in general.
There’s plenty going on in the Cherry Hill area for Labor Day 2015. Here’s a list of four happenings to attend that provide the perfect celebratory event for everyone in the family.
BBQ & Craft Beer Festival
This one, hosted by Monmouth Park Racetrack, is strictly for the adults. Taking place Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, this weekend-long event elevates the usual full card of racing with craft brews and barbecue prepared on site. Call the venue at 732-222-5100.
Labor Day Celebration at Franklin Square
Taking place on Saturday, September 5 and running through to Labor Day (each of the three days start at noon), this traditional outing celebrates the end of summer as much as Labor Day itself. It all takes place in Franklin Square, the hub of historic downtown, featuring various catering franchises, carnival games (each $0.25 per play), the Lightning Bolt Express Train ($5 for adults to ride, $4 for children), Philly Mini Golf, the Parx Liberty Carousel, and much more!
There’s no admission fee, and attractions are suitable for all ages. Call 215-629-4026 for details.
44th Annual Delaware Valley Bluegrass Festival
The 44th Annual Delaware Valley Bluegrass Festival begins on Friday, September 4 at 8 am, running through to Sunday evening. Hosted by the Salem County Fairgrounds in Woodstown, NJ, event organizers describe their baby as “the premier Labor Day bluegrass music festival in the United States since 1972.”
The lineup always features the finest nationally and regionally known performers and bands, this year including the Gibson Brothers, Sierra Hull, and Dan Paisley and the Southern Grass. You can call 302-321-6466 for performance times.
Labor Day Weekend Fireworks
Your next appointment for Labor Day weekend fun is at Sesame Place in Langhorne, PA, for a gigantic fireworks display. Scheduled to start around 8:30 pm, this special pyrotechnic spectacle has two showings, Saturday and Sunday night. These are child-friendly fireworks: choreographed detonations set to catchy Sesame Street tunes that offer the perfect evening show for little ones.
Characters including Abby Cadabby, Cookie Monster, Count von Count, and Elmo will mingle with the crowd beneath colorful bursts that light up the night sky in eye-catching patterns. This year you can purchase fireworks grab bags to enjoy during the show at a discounted rate! All of the regular Sesame Place Park evening attractions will also be in full swing, and operator SeaWorld Parks and Entertainment guarantees the families-first atmosphere. Call 215-752-7070 for more information.
Traveling between all of these destinations will require reliable transportation, and in west-central Jersey, that means a visit to Cherry Hill Nissan. Located on State Route 38 in Cherry Hill, just minutes from US 295, Service Manager Bob Miller and his staff can take care of all your new Nissan and used vehicle needs!
