Philadelphia is a city rich in American history, which makes this the perfect place to spend July 4th taking in one of the fireworks displays happening around town. This year, there will be several Independence Day fireworks celebrations happening in and around Philadelphia, and each one offers its own flavor. To help you decide which show to catch, we’ve provided an overview of the most anticipated July 4th events around Philadelphia for you below:
This annual patriotic festival offers seven days of free family fun and is scheduled to take place June 28-July 4, 2014. A few of the more notable events that will take place during this week-long festival include the free POPS! on Philly concert that will take place on July 3rd on the steps of Independence Hall at 8pm and the Philadelphia Independence Day Parade on July 4th from 11am through 12:30pm throughout historic Philadelphia.
The biggest crowd drawer of the Wawa Welcome America! Festival is the Philly 4th of July Jam and Fireworks that will take place on July 4th along Benjamin Franklin Parkway (from 20th Street to Eakins Oval). The event begins at 7pm with the largest free concert in America with performances from The Roots, Ed Sheeran, Nicki Minaj, Jennifer Hudson, Aloe Blacc, Ariana Grande, and Vicci Martinez. Plan on sticking around afterwords for a spectacular fireworks display over the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
Admission to the Wawa Welcome America! seven-day festival (including the Philly 4th of July Jam and Fireworks show) is free.
Come celebrate Independence Day at Longwood Gardens for a choreographed fountain and fireworks display on July 4th beginning at 9:15pm. To compliment the fireworks and fountains, the show will include patriotic music selections such as The Stars and Stripes, The National Anthem, and The Olympic Fanfare.
Admission to this event for non-members 16 and older is $38 per person ($31 for members) and $22 for non-members 15 and under ($18 for members).
While the July 4th festivities mentioned above are all family friendly, Sesame Place is the ideal place to catch the fireworks if you have young children. Come sing along with your favorite Sesame Street characters as they paint the sky red, green, and blue with a breathtaking fireworks display.
The fireworks show will take place on July 4th beginning at 9:25pm, and admission to the show is free with general admission to Sesame Place. Please note that ticket prices vary depending on which package you choose, and you can contact Sesame Place to determine which ticket package will work best for your family.
In the event that you’re not able to check out a fireworks display in Philadelphia this July 4th, you can fortunately take in a show later this summer. The Camden Riversharks minor league baseball team in nearby Camden, New Jersey will host a post-game fireworks show every Friday and Saturday night for home games throughout the summer (May 2nd through September 18th). The Phillies will also put on an incredible post-game fireworks display on June 26th and June 27th at Citizens Bank Park.
